 AFB Waterkloof sport awards

Sergeant Major A. J. de Klerk won the Sports Man of the Year (Badminton), while Flight Sergeant D. F. Van Tonder took a Runner Up position as he participated in the International Shooting Unit (ISU) at Air Force Base (AFB) Waterkloof Sports Merit Awards Function on November 18th, 2005. Sports Woman of the Year was won by Sergeant Major de Jager (Badminton). In his speech with regard to these sporting activities, Brig Gen Mbambo, the Officer Commanding of AFB Waterkloof, even remarked that the year 2005 has been, indeed, the year where AFB Waterkloof excelled in sport.

There were, however, several victories on this day as Lt Col Henning became the winner, while sergeant Major van Dyk (Bowling) was made a Runner Up in Sport Type of the Year. Other achievers were Lt Col D. Henning (Golf) who became the winner in the Sports Personality of the Year and, his Runner Up was Mr P. Hollander (Cycling and Gymnasium). In the category of Sports Administrator of the Year, the winner was Sergeant Major J. P. Prinsloo (Practical Shooting) and his Runner Up was Lt Col D. Henning (Golf). Sports Veteran of the Year went to Flight Sergeant N. A. Rautenbach (ISU Shooting) while the Runner Up position was taken by N. A. Smith (Badminton).

According to Brig Gen Mbambo, forty members were chosen for South African Air Force (SAAF) teams, twenty-five chosen for South African National Defence Force (SANDF) teams, eleven for provincial teams and nine members chosen for national teams. A total of two-hundred and fifteen medals were won on different levels of which eighty-nine were gold medals.
The Physical Training and Sports Recreation Officer at AFB Waterkloof, Maj Yolandi Rautenbach also presented awards to Lt Col W. Dillman and Pam Du Plessis for Physical Training Sports and Recreation Support and Supply Office, Maj Y. Rautenbach and Corporal T. Van Tonder for Physical Training Sports and Recreation Office.
