Brig Gen Sipho David Mashobane
CURRICULUM VITAE – BRIG GEN MASHOBANE
Brig Gen Sipho David Mashobane was
born at Alexandra Township in
Johannesburg on 23 January 1956. He
started his schooling in Soweto and
ended up at Meadowlands High School
doing his final Senior Certificate
in 1976. The same year during the
Soweto uprisings, he left the
country and joined Umkhonto we Sizwe
(MK) the military wing of the ANC.
He underwent training in different
countries and held various positions
while in exile. He returned to the
Republic of South Africa in 1992.
He integrated into the SANDF in 1994
as a Captain and completed the
Officer Orientation Course in 1995.
In 1997 after completion of the
Junior Command and Staff Course, he
was promoted to the rank of Major
and appointed as the Officer
Commanding of 502 Squadron.
In 2000, he was promoted to the rank
of Lt Col and appointed as the
Training Co-ordinator and later the
Efficiency Co-ordinator at Air Force
Gymnasium.
In 2002, he completed the Joint
Senior Command and Staff Programme.
In 2003, he was promoted to the rank
of Colonel and appointed as the
Officer Commanding Air Force
Gymnasium. In 2004, he completed the
Executive National Security
Programme. In 2005, he was promoted
to the rank of Brig Gen and
appointed as Director Education
Training and Development in the
South African Air Force.
In January 2008, he was appointed as
the Commandant of the South African
National War College.
On 1 February 2011 he was appointed
as the Inspector General of the Air
Force.
Brig Gen Mashobane is married and is
blessed with a wife, two sons and a
two daughters and his hobbies are
reading and playing chess. He plays
golf and does gym training to keep
fit.
