 Introduction

On 08 August 1988 526 Squadron was established at Air Force Base Langebaanweg. It consisted of the Officer Commanding, Lt G.H.C. Gerber, three shift leaders, six entrance controllers and four dog handlers. In July 1995 the command and control of 526 Squadron was taken over by Capt G.E.N. Wiese.

  • For the last four years the best protection squadron in the Air Force.
  • Last four years 2nd, 3rd, 1st and 1st in the Air Force out of 74 Units.

526 Squadrons performance

External and internal audits, inspections and evaluations

In 1998, Air Force internal EFQM evaluation, 526 Squadron achieved 3rd position out of 14 Protection Squadrons. The squadron was also chosen as section of the year at Langebaanweg.

In 1999, Air Forces internal EFQM evaluation, 526 Squadron achieved 1st position out of 14 Protection Squadrons, and was placed 2nd overall in the Air Force out of more than 70 units. The squadron was also chosen as section of the year at Langebaanweg.

In 2000, Air Forces internal EFQM evaluation, 526 Squadron achieved 1st position for the 2nd consecutive year, out of 14 Protection Squadrons, and 3rd overall in the Air Force out of more that 70 units.

In 2001, 2002 and 2003 the squadron was selected by the Chief of the air Force to compete in the SAEF National Competition to represent the Air Force and Department of Defence. After being nominated the best protection squadron for four consecutive, the squadron also obtained the highest marks in the Air Force relating to the Air Forces SAEF evaluations for the previous two years.
