History
of 515 Sqn
515 Sqn was
officially established on 14 January 1987 at Odangwa.
The Squadron was later moved from Odangwa to AFB
Louis Trichardt (AFB Makhado) in June 1989.
The Sqn badge was approved by State Heraldic on 16
March 1987, General Quartermaster on 17 March 1987,
Chief of the Air Force on 23 March 1987 and Chief of
the South African Defence Force on 27 March 1987

Explanation of the Badge
Makelanie Palms.
The three Makelanie palms on the top part of the badge
represents the three arms of service that were
deployed in Ondangwa during that time, namely SAAF,
SA Army and SAHMS
The palm leaves have seven points which represents
the seven tribes with their seven captains.
Griffin. Griffin is a symbol of protection service
which provides safeguarding from air and ground.
Castle. Castle wall represents a safe harbour for
the SAAF assets.
Motto. Sember Paratus means “always ready” (Mazdula
wo vhamba in Venda).
