HISTORIC MILESTONE: 44 SQUADRON - TRANSPORT MULTI ENGINE FLIGHT INSTRUCTORS

Captain S.A Naidoo qualified as the first ever, non white multi engine flight instructor in the SAAF. Whereas Captain I. Bedford qualified as the first female multi engine flight instructor since the Second World War, within the SAAF's volunteer full time force component. Captain Bedford has, however, reached another milestone being the first female multi engine transport instructor on an operational SAAF squadron. One needs to keep in mind that the Women's Air Force of the SAAF, during World War II, formed part of the auxiliary forces and not part of the fighting forces.
