Stand a chance to win your very own, limited edition Chief of the Air Force coffee table book!
 

Ever wanted to go behind the scenes at the South African Air Force (SAAF), jump into the cockpit with the pilots or inspect the fighter jets before take-off with the aviation technician? Then the Chief of the Air Force’s coffee table book is a must-have for your office or home! Featuring never-before seen photographs of the SAAF’s aircraft and flight personnel, Per aspera ad astra (through adversity to the stars) takes a detailed look at the role and work of the air force. The limited edition coffee table book will be officially launched in 02 March 2011, and the SAAF is currently running an exciting competition where five lucky civilians will win a chance to meet the Chief in person, and get their own autographed copy of the book at the launch.

Per aspera ad astra is a collaborative project between Denel Aviation and the SAAF that was originally inspired by a series of photographs taken by a SAAF photographer. “Created to tell the incredible story of life in the South African and African skies, both organisations saw the coffee table book as a means of leaving a legacy for the next generation of pilots, engineers, artisans and aircraft technicians,” explains Lieutenant General Carlo Gagiano, the Chief of the Air Force (CAF). “It was also a means to document the story of our air force and record the meaningful contribution and work of members of the SAAF, as well as of aircraft support staff including those at Denel Aviation.”

With the book soon to be available at selected outlets for the modest price of "R299", Mike Kgobe, CEO of Denel Aviation, explains that making the book both accessible and affordable for the average South African was a key objective throughout the project, “The SAAF’s story is South Africa’s story. As such, it is one that needs to be told to all of our people. This is why Denel Aviation is such a proud sponsor of Per aspera ad astra. While we have financed the layout, design and the initial print run of 1 000 copies, our long-term goal is however to make this project an annual one that is self-sustaining.”

The SAAF is offering five lucky civilians an opportunity to attend the official launch of Per aspera ad astra at Denel Aviation on 02 March 2011. Winners will receive their own autographed copy of the book at the launch and get to meet the CAF, Lieutenant General Gagiano and Mike Kgobe in person.  COMPETITION RULES

1. Closing date: The closing date shall be the date given in the instructions for the competition and, unless otherwise informed, entries must be received by midnight on 28 February 2011.

2. The competition is only open to members of the public. Employees and families of Denel entities and the SAAF (South African Air Force) are prohibited from entering.

3. Only one entry is allowed per person.

4. The prize consists of 1 x ticket to attend the official launch of Per aspera ad astra at Denel Aviation in Kempton Park on 02 March 2011. The winner will also receive their own copy of Per aspera ad astra which will be autographed by the Chief of the Air Force and the CEO of Denel Aviation. The winner must attend the launch in person. No representatives will be allowed.

5. Entries must provide the details requested, which include entrant’s name, cellular number and email address, together with the answer to the question.

6. The winner will have answered the question correctly and will be the first correct entry randomly drawn after the closing date from all the correct entries received.

7. The judge's decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into.

8. The winner will be notified either by email or by phone within 10 days of the closing date.

9. No responsibility can be accepted for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, damaged or undelivered. Incomplete, inaudible and/or illegible entries will be disqualified. The competition organisers shall not be held responsible for technical errors in telecommunications networks, internet access or anything that otherwise prevents entry to the competition.

10. Prizes are as stated and are non-transferable. No cash alternatives will be offered. If due to circumstances beyond the competition organisers’ control, they are unable to provide the stated prize, the competition organisers reserve the right to award a substitute prize. Prizes are subject to the additional terms and conditions of the manufacturer or supplier.

11. The competition organisers reserve the right to select an alternative winner in the event that they have reasonable grounds for believing that an entrant has contravened any term or condition of entry.

12. The competition organisers shall not be liable for any delay in performing or partial or total failure to perform any of their obligations to the winner (and/or any guests) under these terms and conditions if such delay or failure is caused by circumstances beyond their reasonable control including without limitation delays, changes, disruptions, cancellations, diversions or substitutions howsoever caused.

13. Any personal information collected by the competition organisers in connection with the competition will be used in accordance with the SAAF’s Privacy Policy.

14. Entrants agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
